How to reach Universal Studios Hollywood?

How do you get to Universal Studios Hollywood in Universal City, LA?

Universal Studios Hollywood is near the 101 Freeway in Universal City (also the Universal Studios’ headquarters), just north of Hollywood.

There are different public and private transportation options to visit Universal Studios Hollywood.

Take the metro to Universal Studios Hollywood and avoid the road traffic in LA. 

The nearest metro station to Universal Studios in Los Angeles is Universal City/Studio City, 800 meters (half a mile) away.

With a direct stop at Universal City, you can take the LA Metro B rail (Red Line) that runs from Hollywood to Downtown Los Angeles (Union Station).

From Universal City, you can opt for a 25 minute uphill walk to the entrance of Universal Studios or use a free Universal Studios shuttle directly across from the metro station.

Shuttles to Universal Studios Hollywood run from 7 am to 8 pm, two hours after the park’s daily closing time of 6 pm.  

You will need a reloadable fare (TAP) card with costs starting at $1.75 to ride the metro. Use the LA Metro trip planner to learn your nearest station. 

You can also use the Metrolink rail system in Southern California to visit from nearby counties by transfering to the LA Metro at Union Station. 

Union Station is a hub for trains from various surrounding areas, including Amtrak and Metrolink trains to Universal Studios Hollywood. 

Metrolink offers various ticket options, both online and ticket machines at stations. For occasional one-day travel get a one-way ticket or a round trip ticket.

The weekend day pass (for $10) is a great way to enjoy unlimited travel on either Saturday or Sunday and includes free transfers to connecting transit services (excluding Amtrak).

Note: Children 17 years old and younger can ride Metrolink trains for free on Saturdays and Sundays when accompanied by a paying adult.

By Bus

Another option is taking a bus from LA or Orange County. 

Passengers can board Universal Studios Hollywood bus — Buses 155 or 224 that drop them off at a bus station close to Universal Studios Hollywood.

Bus 155 travels from North Hollywood Station to Burbank Station via Riverside-Olive.

It operates every day from 4.30 am to 9.29 pm.

Bus 224 has its route from Sylmar Station to Universal Studios Station. It has timing from 4.24 am to 8.46 pm daily.

After a 10-minute walk in that direction, you can use the shuttle to travel to the attraction.

Parking signs indicate Universal Studios Hollywood, where you can easily reach through Universal Studios Boulevard and the 101 Freeway in Universal City.

You can use the exit from Lankershim Boulevard or Universal Studios Boulevard to enter the attraction’s entrance by following the signs.

They are conveniently located on a hilltop overlooking Hollywood. 

Just to the north of Los Angeles’s city center is Universal City.

How to Reach Universal Studios Hollywood From Different Locations?

Get directions to Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk from different parts of the city.

From the Los Angeles International Airport

Universal Studios is 30 miles north of Los Angeles Airport (LAX), and it has approximately 50 minutes of driving time. 

To get to the 105 Freeway, follow the sign from the terminal to get to the 110 Harbor Freeway North and take the 105 Freeway East

Get on the 101 Hollywood Freeway North after going through the downtown area. 

To reach the Universal Studios Blvd. exit, continue on the 101 Freeway. 

Follow the signs to Universal Studios and the parking spaces by turning right along Universal Studios Boulevard.

You can also use the LAX Airport Shuttle to Universal Studios at a $85 rate for the first passenger and $10 for each additional passenger (up to 9).

From Hollywood

About 4 miles north of Hollywood, you can reach Universal Studios in about 15 minutes by road. 

Follow the signs to Universal Studios Hollywood by taking the 101 Hollywood Freeway north to Universal Studios Blvd.

From Santa Monica

Universal Studios is around 20 miles northwest of Santa Monica with a 30 minute travel time by road. 

To get to the 405 Freeway North, take the 10 Santa Monica Freeway East

The 101 Ventura Freeway East/South exit is available. Take that exit.

Stay on the 101 Freeway and take the Lankershim Boulevard exit

Follow the directions to Universal Studios Hollywood by turning right.

From Anaheim

You can get to Universal Studios Hollywood in about an hour, traveling 40 miles northeast of Anaheim.

Take the Northbound 5 Golden State Freeway and take the 101 Hollywood Freeway North exit.

Drive on the 101 Freeway until you reach the Universal Studios Blvd. exit

Follow the signs to Universal Studios and the parking spaces by turning right along Universal Studios Boulevard.
